“We are excited to partner with Sutter Health to make this pioneering ultrasound technology available to their healthcare providers,” Joe Eibl, CEO of Flosonics Medical, said in a release. “FloPatch is a new paradigm that connects physiology and regenerative medicine.

“We believe it could revolutionize treatment for critical care patients by bringing much-needed insight into complex and urgent clinical situations.”

The FDA-cleared device gives ICU nurses a quick, hands-free way to monitor blood flow at the bedside to help guide cardiac disease and fluid management in critically ill patients.

One recent study showed for every 10 FloPatch tests performed in the emergency department, about four patients will avoid a potentially dangerous fluid, resulting in results that improved patient outcomes and significant cost savings.

Determining how much or how little intravenous fluid (IV) to give a patient is one of the most urgent, complex and error-prone steps in critical care. The FloPatch provides a simple, fast and consistent way to measure changes in blood flow and heart function associated with IV fluid volume.

By making it easier to administer IV fluids, FloPatch improves the care of critically ill patients, including those with septic shock, the leading cause of death in US hospitals.

Placed around the patient’s neck, the hands-free FloPatch continuously monitors blood flow in the carotid arteries, which provide a window into the left ventricle. FloPatch then wirelessly transmits that data to a secure iOS mobile device, providing clinicians with actionable, real-time information at the bedside.

Sutter Health will deploy FloPatch this summer at two Bay Area medical centers (for a total of four ICUs): first at Sutter’s Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, Calif., and then at Sutter’s California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco at CPMC Van Ness. , Davies and Mission Bernal campuses.

“Sepsis, hypotension/shock and renal failure are common clinical problems in the emergency department and ICU,” said Dr. Kristina Kury, medical director of Critical Care at Sutter’s Eden Medical Center. “FloPatch can have a significant impact on patient care by allowing targeted care, will prevent potentially dangerous interventions and, in some cases, may avoid the need for emergency care.” ICU.

“I believe this technology will provide accurate, actionable data that will allow us to improve patient care, reduce complications and reduce length of stay for many of our patients.”

Dr. George S. Horng, medical director of Critical Care at California Pacific Medical Center in Sutter, agreed. “Based on our first experience using the FloPatch, we believe it will be effective in managing the care of ICU patients with cardiac arrest and other critical conditions such as sepsis.

“This is a non-invasive breakthrough that will lead to better quality of life outcomes for our patients.”
